Sara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in IL with a certification in Sex Therapy. She works with a mixture of both individual and couples clients around a wide array of presenting concerns but specializes in working around queer identity, gender transitions, anxiety, sexual trauma, desire discrepancy, relationship conflict, and sexual shame. While she brings an existential and interpersonal approache to all the work she does, when it comes to couples, Sara draws a lot from the teachings of John & Julie Gottman, having received Level 1 & 2 Gottman Training.
The demand for couples and relationship therapy has increased in recent years, as our culture has shifted its view of couples therapy as a “last resort” for marriages on their breaking point towards a support system that can be helpful to relationships of all structures and developmental stages. More than ever, we need more clinicians trained in working with couples, but many of us find it difficult to take that first leap into the work. This training is geared towards clinicians either new to couples and relationship counseling as well as therapists who may be looking for a refresher on core concepts.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Understand core differences between couples and relationship therapy with other therapeutic interventions, including when to refer to relationship therapy.
2. Differentiate between different common approaches to relational work.
3. Learn common techniques to utilize when working with couples.
4. Explore topics around ethics as they relate specifically to relationship counseling.
Seats are $10 for general admission and $20 for CEU credit. Sage Therapy is licensed through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (IDFPR) to provide continue education units to LPC/LCPCs, LSW/LCSWs, and ALMFT/LMFTs.
