Working with Alzheimer's & Other Dementias

The purpose of this workshop is to empower clinicians and other caregivers in caring for those impacted by dementia and other forms of cognitive decline. This training will delve into topics including: recognizing the signs of dementia and how it differs from normal aging, diagnosis and connecting clients to supportive care, communicating strategies when working with individuals with dementia, and promoting client's agency, right to self-determination, priavcy, and dignity in treatment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Learn about different types of dementia/cognitive decline, and be able to recognize signs/symptoms of dementia vs. normal aging.
2.
Learn effective communication strategies when working with older adults experiencing dementia or cognitive decline.
3.
Learn where to connect older adults experiencing dementia/cognitive decline to receive further support outside of the mental health space.
4.
Review the importance of a client's right to self-determination, and how clinicians can preserve these clients dignity, privacy, and choice in session.


This event is free for the general public. For our clinical audience, be sure to select the CEU option at checkout if you would like to receive credit. CEU certificates are $20.
