About

Amelia Nawn

To be trusted as your therapist is my greatest privilege and responsibility.

Why I became a therapist

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Following my natural inclination toward deep curiosity and empathy, I’ve found myself in the role of therapist, where I get to hold space for individuals working toward defining and building their unique vision for and pathway toward “a good life”. I value and honor everyone’s process toward growth, even when it’s messy or nonlinear, and believe people are capable of meaningful change when they feel safe and supported. As a trained Social Worker, I am also very passionate about individual healing that emphasizes the influence of systemic and environmental factors. To be trusted as your therapist is my greatest privilege and responsibility.

Who I work with

I work with individuals who are navigating a range of emotional and relational challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma and questions around identity and direction. I work with clients who are finding themselves feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others, helping them gain insight and uncover unseen obstacles. I enjoy working with clients in search of deep self-awareness, who are open to discovering and adopting new or different perspectives. Additionally, we might be a good fit if you are seeking to understand and modify existing patterns of thought or behavior through gentle challenging in the therapy space.

My work is rooted in and deeply values compassion, curiosity, openmindedness, patience, and humor.

Working With Me

Working with me as a therapist is a collaborative experience, as you are the expert in you! My work is rooted in and deeply values compassion, curiosity, open-mindedness, patience, and humor. I pull from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and other evidence-based modalities to guide our exploratory process, challenge obstacles and implement supportive interventions. As an EMDR practitioner, I utilize this specific modality to support clients in challenging maladaptive behaviors and distorted internalized beliefs about self and the world around them. My work with clients is both deeply reflective, with an equal emphasis on practical application.

My Qualifications and trainings

  • I earned my master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois Chicago;
  • I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from Fordham University;
  • I am a Licensed Social Worker with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR);
  • I am a certified EMDR Therapist;
  • I am trained in embodied, grounding Somatic Experiencing techniques.
