Confronting Implicit Bias

Despite how much importance is placed on fostering secure relationships between clinician and client, many clinicians are unaware of one of the biggest barriers to connection sitting in the room with them – the clinician’s own biases. In this training, we will explore our own biases, including why we develop bias, how it impacts the work that we do clinically, and practices we can take to increase awareness and decrease impact of bias. This training is designed to meet IDFPR requirements for Implicit Bias training for licensed social workers, counselors, and marriage & family therapists.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Learn the roots of how we form biases and the different forms that biases can take on.
2. Define implicit bias and how it differs from other more explicit forms of bias.
3. Understand where implicit bias impacts our clinical practice at multiple levels of interventions.
4. Recognize where our own biases lie and learn practical strategies to start confronting them.

Sign-up for this event is free for general audience; CEU seats are $20. Be sure to select the CEU option at checkout if you would like to receive credit.
